How to Treat TMJ and Eliminate Its Symptoms


For people who are suffering from the symptoms of this condition, one resonant though is always how to treat TMJ for good. Pain is one of the most prevalent symptoms of TMJ and one of the most disturbing too. For some, the pain becomes so severe that it already affects their quality of life.

Well, the good part is nowadays, there are several approach that offers holistic treatment to TMJ. However, the best way to start is always to identify the underlying cause of the condition. Learning how to treat TMJ would follow after you've identified the root cause.

In most cases, whatever the underlying cause is, there are always some measure you can use to manage the symptoms and ease the pain that's associated with the condition.

Some of these symptom management are:

Warm Compress and Facial Exercise

Applying warm compress has been known to ease the tension of the jaw. And soon after the warm compress, you can do specific facial exercise specified by healthcare professionals for your condition. One example of such exercise is the mandibular movement wherein you close and open your mouth by moving your lower jaw and slowly moving it from side to side on the process.

Eating the Right Food

If you are currently experiencing pain it is best to avoid hard and chewy foods as it will just add to the tension of the jaw. Stick to soft foods but never compromise a well balanced meal and drink lots of water.

Maintain Correct Positioning

To ease the pain of TMJ you have to promote relaxation in that area. One way to do that is just simply maintain right position of the jaw. You need to have your upper and lower teeth slightly apart while your lips are closed. Keep your tongue on the top portion of your mouth and breathe through your nose.

These are just some of the practical things you can do to remedy or at least ease the severity of the symptoms of TMJ. However, there are some who are quite successful in treating their TMJ using holistic approach.
